Spaxton C of E Primary School Celebrates ‘Good’ Ofsted Rating in All Areas

Spaxton Church of England Primary School, part of the Quantock Education Trust, is delighted to announce that it has been officially rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in its latest inspection.

Inspectors praised the school’s strong sense of community, high aspirations for all pupils, and the effective leadership driving continued improvement. The report recognises that “Pupils appreciate the support they gain from caring staff” and commended the school’s commitment to pupil wellbeing and attendance.

In the report, Ofsted noted:

“The school has high expectations of what pupils can achieve through a broad and ambitious curriculum. Pupils rise to these and typically learn the curriculum well.”

“Pupils are encouraged to be responsible, active and respectful citizens. Through a variety of pupil leadership roles, they know they make a difference.”

“The school is a calm and purposeful place where pupils want to learn.”

“The school is determined for pupils to be successful.”

Headteacher Mrs Rood welcomed the report, saying:

“We’re incredibly proud that the progress of the school has been recognised. As a school, we have not shied away from making important decisions about the curriculum and we are now seeing the impact on pupil outcomes. Having Ofsted report that “There has been a sharp focus on the quality of education that the pupils receive” was particularly pleasing, and we look forward to seeing improvements continue as we further embed our ambitious curriculum. My thanks go out to the staff, pupils, parents, governors and the Quantock Education Trust for all of their support and for creating an environment and culture where pupils flourish and actively “want to learn”.

Ofsted inspectors also highlighted the school’s strong reading culture and effective curriculum planning, particularly for mixed-age classes:

“The school prioritises helping pupils to learn to read... The school promotes a love of reading.”

“It has considered the needs of mixed-age classes well to ensure that pupils build their knowledge based on what they have learned before.”

Chair of Governors, Mr Watson added:

“Spaxton is a truly special school, rooted in strong values & ethos with a deep sense of care. The whole staff team works tirelessly to give our children the best possible opportunities, and I’m delighted to see their dedication recognised. This Ofsted report reflects the heart, ambition, and commitment that define our school and the journey it is on.”

Chrysta Garnett, CEO of the Quantock Education Trust, also praised the school:

“It’s fantastic to see Spaxton thriving. It’s vital that we continue to support and celebrate our rural schools. I am really proud of the pupils, staff, and wider team who make it a vibrant, successful school at the heart of its community. Strong leadership has ensured it delivers excellent outcomes while retaining its true village school character.”
