Early Career Framework

We understand that the first years in teaching will be busy, exciting and challenging at times. To ensure that our Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are successful in meeting the Teachers’ Standards by the end of the induction period and enjoy fulfilling careers in education, all ECTs will receive an entitlement to high quality, personalised support and training based upon the Early Career Framework (ECF).  As part of our commitment to nurturing ECT growth and talent we are working in partnership with Five Counties Teaching Hubs Alliance and the Ambition Institute to offer a comprehensive induction process.

So, what does ECT induction look like?

  • The induction programme is delivered across 2 academic years.
  • In addition to the 10% timetable reduction that ECTs receive in their first year of induction, ECTs will also receive a 5% timetable reduction in the second year of induction to enable them to ease into the demands of a full teaching timetable.
  • The role of the mentor has been introduced. The mentor will have a key role in supporting the ECT during induction period. Mentors are experience practitioners that will support the ECT through the process of instructional coaching. ECTs will engage in weekly dedicated training sessions and review key pedagogical processes and strategies to support their development. Mentors will observe ECT practice weekly and offer constructive coaching advice to enhance and move ECT practice on from strength to strength. Thereby developing a wealth of expertise that ECTs will utilise throughout their teaching career.
  • There will be two formal assessment points, one midway through induction, and one at the end of the induction period. These will be supported by regular progress reviews to monitor progress and to support all ECTs.
